Taking part in Wayneageddon

Wayneageddon, much like Whamageddon, is played between 1 December and 24 December each year.

But rather than losing the game for hearing Last Christmas by Wham, you win by encountering the lesser-played I Want an Alien for Christmas by the Fountains of Wayne by chance.

Here's an overview of how to play, updated 7 November 2023:

  1. The game starts each year on 1 December at 00:00 and ends on 24 December at 23:59.
  2. The game is won the moment a player hears I Want an Alien for Christmas unintentionally. This means a player will not win by deliberately listening to the song nor arranging to have it played by someone else.
  3. Hearing any version of the song is a win – including remixes, covers, and samples – as long as it is recognisably the song written by the Fountains of Wayne. If there is doubt over its identity, the player is considered not to have won the game.
  4. The player may post #Wayneageddon on social media as soon as the game is won, but this is not a requirement.
  5. Any scenarios not covered by the above rules may be resolved at the discretion of the player.
