Taking part in Wayneageddon
Wayneageddon, much like Whamageddon, is played between 1 December and 24 December each year.
But rather than losing the game for hearing Last Christmas by Wham, you win by encountering the lesser-played I Want an Alien for Christmas by the Fountains of Wayne by chance.
Here's an overview of how to play, updated 7 November 2023:
- The game starts each year on 1 December at 00:00 and ends on 24 December at 23:59.
- The game is won the moment a player hears I Want an Alien for Christmas unintentionally. This means a player will not win by deliberately listening to the song nor arranging to have it played by someone else.
- Hearing any version of the song is a win – including remixes, covers, and samples – as long as it is recognisably the song written by the Fountains of Wayne. If there is doubt over its identity, the player is considered not to have won the game.
- The player may post #Wayneageddon on social media as soon as the game is won, but this is not a requirement.
- Any scenarios not covered by the above rules may be resolved at the discretion of the player.
